Also called: Naphtali, Nephthalim
Naphtali was one of the twelve sons of Jacob and Bilhah, Rachel's maidservant. He is considered the founder of the Tribe of Naphtali, one of the tribes of Israel. His name means 'my struggle' or 'wrestling' in Hebrew, reflecting Rachel's feelings during childbirth.[GEN 30:8][GEN 35:25][GEN 46:24]
Naphtali's descendants formed one of the tribes of Israel, which played a significant role in the history of the Israelite nation. The tribe is often associated with the region of Galilee, which is noted in the New Testament as a significant area in the ministry of Jesus.[MAT 4:13][MAT 4:15][ISA 9:1]
