Also called: Moab, Moabitess, Moabitish, Moabites
Moab is a biblical figure mentioned as the son of Lot and his elder daughter, making him a descendant of Abraham. The Moabites, his descendants, inhabited the region east of the Dead Sea and are frequently mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, often in relation to the Israelites.[GEN 19:37]
The Moabites are significant in biblical history as they often interacted with the Israelites, sometimes as adversaries and at other times as allies. The Book of Ruth, which features a Moabite woman, highlights their role in the lineage of David and, by extension, in the genealogy of Jesus.[RUT 1:1][RUT 1:4]
